EUROPEAN FOOD SAFETY AUTHORITY
Evolving and modernising the information systems that underpin European food safety
Needs
EFSA is the European Union's primary body for risk assessment in food and feed safety. Its broad ecosystem of information systems supports scientific, administrative and HR processes, stakeholder collaboration and data exchange with European institutions.
Legacy software and heterogeneous technologies were limiting scalability, interoperability and the organisation's ability to adapt — making modernisation both urgent and strategically necessary.
Solution
As part of a long-term engagement, we supported EFSA in the maintenance, evolution and progressive modernization of its strategic application portfolio.
We contributed to the gradual migration of legacy systems toward a more modular, cloud-oriented ecosystem, designing integration services and APIs to connect platforms, improve data consistency, and automate end-to-end processes.
Key Elements of the solution
- Corrective, preventive and adaptive application maintenance
- Rationalization and modernization of legacy applications
- Progressive migration to cloud platforms
- Support and evolution of Oracle HCM Cloud
- Development and maintenance of workflows and case management solutions on Appian
- Support for and integration of the Salesforce platform
- Development of custom applications on Microsoft Azure
- Design and implementation of APIs and integration services
Benefits
- Reduced dependence on legacy technologies
- Improved integration across processes, data and platforms
- Automation of end-to-end operational workflows
- Reduction of technical debt and maintenance complexity
- Greater alignment between technologies and organizational needs
- Creation of a solid foundation for future digital transformation initiatives
